Tucson Bucket List // 03

Our third bucket list family date was another long drive-but we enjoy road trips, and Elijah, thankfully, loves his car seat.

Steven had intended to surprise me again, but it didn't quite work out that way. I forgot the camera's memory card and asked to go back to get it (we were only 10 minutes away). Steven said that we would miss the main event if we did. I asked if we could catch the main event another day, but Steven insisted. Finally, I asked where we were going so that I could understand everything, and he explained that we were going to Tombstone, but that he wanted to see the annual Rose Tree Parade which started at 1:00 (and we were already cutting it close). In short...enjoy the cell phone/borrowed photos!

We made it just in time for the parade and found a great parking spot just off of the main road (for free!). The Rose Tree Parade was a hoot. There were people in costume everywhere. We enjoyed ourselves, and our favorite by far was this little carriage:

After the parade we explored the Tombstone Courthouse which is a beautifully maintained State Historic Park. The courthouse wasn't exactly stroller friendly, so we took turns sitting outside with Elijah in great weather.

Following the courthouse, we went to watch a gunfight, which was terribly wonderful/wonderfully terrible. Slapstick comedy for dayyyyys. Also, Elijah was a little jumpy the rest of the day...

We're saving this photo for his prom date...

Next we hopped on a Tombstone Trolley Tour (all decorated from the Rose Tree Parade) and saw the town the easy way! Best part of the day in my opinion! Our guide explained everything about where we were, and pointed out buildings that we wouldn't have even noticed.

During a short recess at the local park to feed Elijah we ended up buying banana bread and jalapeno bread to support the local library (and our grumbly tummies). We finished up our day by walking down the main road, buying a sweet Mexican style blanket for Elijah, and visiting the site of the "Gun Fight at O.K. Corral" (which we learned on our trolley ride actually happened at Fremont and 8th, but Hollywood didn't think that sounded quite as cool...).
