Korea // 04

The area that we live in could easily be described as "rural with a side of skyscrapers". There are farm fields within walking distance, and lots of them. We love that about our home. Something else we love about this place is that it is also home to the 17th Annual Asian Games Incheon 2014!

Our apartment is about a 20 minute walk from the stadium, close enough that we watched the opening ceremonies from the roof of a neighboring building (which had an unobstructed view). Watching this city come to life over the past few months has been completely exciting! They love hosting the games because they are proud to show off Korea.

Ever since we found out about the games we knew we wanted to go to an event or two, but we weren't sure what, when, or how much we were willing to spend on it. So when KTO (the Korean Tourism Organization) was offering free tickets to the first 500 foreigner respondents we pounced! We won two tickets to the track and field events at the main stadium!

Just in case you're about as sports event savvy as I am, the Asian Games are the second largest athletics gathering in the world, only yielding to the Olympics. More than half of the world's population is Asian...it just makes sense!

We loved going to the stadium and watching the events! We were able to catch the men's pole vault finals, women's hammer throw and shot put, women's and men's 400 m, women's and men's 100 m, and men's hurtles. There were also a few women's heptathlon events thrown in for fun. We really enjoyed ourselves and successfully stayed dry from the rain!
