Korea // 02 // Photo Walk - Foliage

The more I have researched about learning how to use my camera, the more I have learned that I really just need to get out and use it. Get used to it. Get to know it. With baby on the way, my goal is to have a decent command of the images I capture. Therefore, I have been looking for ways to practice taking more pictures on the manual settings while not feeling pressured that I might miss the moment. Traveling isn't always great for that, since everything you see is new and exciting, not to mention fleeting. Therefore I have done about 50/50 with auto/manual during my travels.

Stephanie's blog has been one of my constant reads for a few months now, and I have enjoyed her photo walk posts. Particularly her statement that "Whenever I do photo walks or photo projects...I tend to be hard on myself and get discouraged about each individual photo. It’s only when I see the photos all grouped together that I can fully appreciate them and am reminded that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

I've been wanting to do a designated "photo walk" for a while now, but I've been too timid. I don't feel that I am "good enough" to publish such a thing on this blog, and what else would I do with those pictures? Is it worth it just to take pictures and then delete them from ever being?

I guess today the cosmic alignment just so happened to give me courage?

It rained all night, and all day here in Cheongna, but it cleared up just as we were walking home. As we started our stroll, talking about the funniest things our students said, I noticed a field of purple, magenta, and white flowers. My first thought was if I was a blogger of any sort of consequence, I would come back and document that. My second thought was this is my home for only the next 2 months. I'd better document it while I can! And just like that, the words came out of my mouth "What would you think of going on a photo walk today?"

After explaining the concept to Steven he was all in (because I picked a winner you guys, an A+ winner).

So today's theme was foliage of Korea. I hope that I can look back on this and enjoy the fact that I lived somewhere other than dry, dusty, brown Arizona for at least a little while!

  1. Beautiful! Much better than dirt and definitely worthy enough to display. Now for some pictures of you and that cute little baby please :)
